The Basics

Today's sheet vinyl has truly advanced from the vinyl of yesterday.
  • Vast selection of fashionable colors, patterns and textures; many that emulate the look of natural products.
  • Broad price range to meet all budgets.
  • Good for rooms prone to moisture such as kitchens, baths and laundry or mud rooms
  • Easy to maintain.
  • Soft and warm underfoot.
  • Easier to replace at a later date compared to ceramic or stone.

Thicker is Not Always Better

Like carpet, as you move up in higher quality sheet vinyl products you'll see that quality is not measured by thickness but by construction. A better sheet vinyl product will have:
  • A denser inner core to help resist rips, tears and indentations.
  • A higher quality wearlayer such as urethane helps the floor stand up to staining, scuffing and scratching.

The Value of Upgrading
  • Greater pattern, color and texture selection.
  • Higher quality wearlayer the higher quality the wearlayer the easier the floor will be to maintain and will look better longer. It also increases the resistance to staining, scuffing and scratching.
  • Denser constructions denser products assist the floor in standing up to rips, tears, gouges and indentations.
  • Extended warranties.

Design Tips

  • Selecting a Pattern
    • Room Size - Remember that lighter colors will make a smaller room appear larger, while darker colors will absorb the light and create a more intimate setting.

Lighter

Darker

    • Pattern Size - Smaller patterns work well in small areas or in rooms where the pattern will be visually interrupted by pieces of furniture or a kitchen island. Larger patterns, however can sometimes visually expand a space.

Smaller

Larger

    • Existing fabric or wallpaper - When coordinating with a printed fabric or wallpaper with a printed sheet vinyl floor remember:
      • If the fabric or wallpaper has a large scale pattern look at smaller prints for the floor.
      • If the fabric or wallpaper has a small scale pattern look at larger prints for the floor.

  • Selecting a Gloss Level
    • Many products come with different gloss levels, primarily low, medium and high. For high traffic areas consider a low to medium gloss level for easier maintenance of the daily wear and tear.
